Chelsea new boy makes great start

Recent signing Patrick Bamford scored twice on his first appearance in a Chelsea shirt as the Blues’ reserves beat Gillingham 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

Teenage forward Bamford, a pre-deadline arrival from Nottingham Forest, netted as Chelsea’s second string raced into a 4-1 lead. Jacob Mellis, George Saville and Reece Mitchell also scored.

Gillingham clawed their back to 4-4 before Bamford got the winner from the penalty spot after being fouled in the area.
