Mousa Dembele says he is “relishing the competition” to win his place back from Harry Winks in the Tottenham midfield.

Dembele has struggled with injuries to his ankle and hip this season and has not started a Premier League game since August, and youngster Winks has impressed in his place.

Dembele said: “Harry is something very good for the team. He’s been very good but everybody knows him, so it’s no surprise to us that he plays very well.

“Obviously I’m relishing the competition with him. Everyone who plays well deserves a chance. In every position there is good rivalry.

“We have a bigger squad that’s more reliable. Anyone can play. Even if there’s four, five injuries the other guys can come in and do well.

“I started the season well but had the injuries. But I will be back. I feel much better. I’m training with the rest of the team now, and training very well.”

Spurs are in action twice at Wembley this week, facing Real Madrid in the Champions League on Wednesday and then Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Saturday.
