Remy wanted to leave Marseille for Spurs

Loic Remy admits he jumped at the chance to finally play in the Premier League, having previously missed out on a move to Tottenham.

Remy was desperate to join Spurs when Harry Redknapp was manager at White Hart Lane and tried to sign him.

They were unable to agree a fee with Marseille, who this week sold Remy to QPR for around £8m – significantly less than the French club had demanded from Tottenham.

It meant Rangers boss Redknapp belatedly got his man, with Remy turning down Newcastle in order to join him at Loftus Road.

Recalling Tottenham’s interest, Remy said: “The stumbling block was financial reasons. Marseille wanted too much money.

“I was very pleased about Spurs’ interest and wanted the opportunity to play in the Premier League.”

Redknapp added: “I spent around four hours with him back then and got on really well with him. I wanted him but Marseille wanted too much and it didn’t happen.”
