Mauricio Pochettino said having Erik Lamela back feels like a new signing after the forward made his first start for Tottenham in more than a year.

Lamela, who spent 13 months out and needed a double hip operation, impressed in a 2-0 win over Brighton at Wembley that moved Spurs back into the top four.

Asked if having Lamela fit again felt like a new arrival, Pochettino said: “Yes. It is so important what he brings to the team and in the last few weeks – the energy he has.

“He needs time to give his best but it is so important to have him fit again and I think he gave a good performance.”

Serge Aurier scored his first Tottenham goal and Heung-Min Son notched his eighth as Tottenham secured a second successive Premier League win.

“We are pleased for the victory and the performance. Generally it was good,” Pochettino said

“It is always difficult to break down the opponent when defend so deep and reduce the space. We created many chances and I believe we deserved to score more tonight.”
