Harry Kane’s second-half double guided Spurs into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

The League One side kept Tottenham at bay for more than an hour before Kane netted twice in as many minutes and Jan Vertonghen added a third goal soon afterwards.

Spurs dominated possession in the first period but could not find a way past Wimbledon goalkeeper George Long, who denied both Kane and Erik Lamela.

Lamela stabbed another good opportunity wide, but the best chance of the half fell to Dons midfielder Jimmy Abdou, whose attempt was acrobatically tipped onto the bar by keeper Michael Vorm.

Mousa Dembele struck the post shortly after the restart, but it took Tottenham until the 63rd minute to pierce the Dons’ defence as Kieran Tripper released Moussa Sissoko, whose cross was turned in by Kane.

The Spurs striker doubled his side’s advantage just two minutes later, tucking the ball into the bottom corner after Kyle Walker-Peters’ shot deflected into his path.

And Vertonghen ended any hopes of a Wimbledon revival 20 minutes from time, pouncing on Lyle Taylor’s slip and rifling his finish across Long from 25 yards out.
