Latest: Newcastle 0 QPR 0 – Rangers close in on away point

A resolute QPR are on course for their first away point in the Premier League this season.

After a goalless first half, Newcastle applied pressure once more after the break and Rob Green had to be alert to deny Ayoze Perez.

Yun-Suk Young also produced a superb clearance to prevent Yoann Gouffran getting on to the end of Shola Ameobi’s outstanding cross.

QPR lost Sandro on the hour mark to injury, after Newcastle’s Ryan Taylor – on his first league start in two-and-a-half years – had departed in the first half.

Rangers were indebted to their hard-working back four and keeper Rob Green to see out the first half without conceding.

Green saved from Remy Cabella and twice denied Taylor, while at the other end, Tim Krul saved comfortably from Charlie Austin and backpedalled to tip Richard Dunne’s header over the bar.

If QPR do avoid defeat, it’ll be their first away point in the Premier League since a goalless draw at Reading in April 2013.

QPR: Green, Onuoha, Caulker, Dunne, Yun, Barton, Henry, Sandro (Kranjcar 60), Fer, Zamora, Austin.
Subs: McCarthy, Traore, Phillips, Isla, Mutch, Hoilett.
