Half-time: Shrewsbury 0 Chelsea 0

Chelsea struggled to create chances against an impressive Shrewsbury side in the first half of the Capital One Cup fourth-round clash.

The Blues threatened early on in the teeming rain through Oscar’s shot and two tame Andre Schurrle strikes.

But the Shrews, who have won their last four games, looked sharper and more cohesive and had the better opportunities until the latter stages of the half.

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech had to make a sprawling near-post save to keep out Nathaniel Knight-Percival’s header from a corner and Bobby Grant also shot over.

Chelsea began to dominate possession in the final 15 minutes, but Schurrle wasted the best opening when he declined the chance to head for goal following a swift break involving Didier Drogba and Mohamed Salah.

Manager Jose Mourinho started Nathan Ake and 18-year-old Danish defender Andreas Christensen, while fellow Blues youngsters Lewis Baker and Isaiah Brown are among the substitutes.

Chelsea: Cech; Christensen, Zouma, Cahill, Filipe Luis; Mikel, Ake; Salah, Oscar, Schurrle; Drogba.
Subs: Schwarzer, Terry, Matic, Baker, Willian, Hazard, Brown.
