Half-time: QPR 0 Tottenham 1

Harry Kane’s 34th-minute goal left relegation-threatened QPR in danger of a second home defeat in the space of three days.

Rangers, beaten by Arsenal in midweek, went close to going ahead when top scorer Charlie Austin fired against the underside of the bar after Matt Phillips had dribbled his way towards the left-hand edge of the penalty area.

Earlier, Austin was unable to find a way past Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris after being gifted a sight of goal by Kyle Walker’s woeful back-header.

However, for all the home side’s good work they were undone by an all-too familiar defensive lapse.

Kane drifted between Nedum Onuoha and the recalled Rio Ferdinand to head home Andros Townsend’s free-kick – the striker’s 25th goal of the season.

QPR (4-4-2): Green; Onuoha, Ferdinand, Caulker, Yun; Isla, Sandro, Henry, Phillips; Zamora, Austin.
Subs: McCarthy, Hill, Wright-Phillips, Kranjcar, Hoilett, Grego-Cox, Comley.
