Redknapp backs Barton for managerial role

Former QPR boss Harry Redknapp has told Talksport he believes Joey Barton could be a success as a manager when the midfielder’s playing career finishes.

Rangers captain Barton, 32, is keen to go to coaching and management when he hangs up his boots.

And Redknapp said: “When you sit down and talk to him, he is knowledgeable. He is a student of the game.

“I can’t wait for him to get the opportunity manage. He could be very good. He has good ideas, he is enthusiastic, and he knows the game.

“Obviously there is another side to him as well, but hopefully when he gets the opportunity he will do a good job for somebody.”

Barton insisted on Twitter on Monday that reports he had blamed Redknapp for relegation-threatened QPR’s plight were misleading.
