Fans have rejuvenated Zamora – Redknapp

Harry Redknapp says Bobby Zamora has been rejuvenated by becoming a hero among QPR fans.

The previously maligned striker, 33, has often struggled for fitness and form since a big-money move from neighbours Fulham in 2012.

But he began to win fans over towards the end of last season, played a key role in the play-off semi-final triumph, and then entered Rangers folklore by scoring a last-minute winner against Derby at Wembley to win promotion.

And he has continued to make an impact this season – his robust display against Liverpool last time out would have previously seemed unthinkable.

“I think he feels the fans really love him now and I think that’s been good for his confidence,” said R’s boss Redknapp.

“He was great last week, Bobby. I made him captain and I felt he responded to that – I think he enjoyed the challenge of that. It was a real captain’s performance.

“He’s always been a good player. When he was at Fulham he was a fantastic player in my opinion.”
