Round-up: Injury woe for Chelsea trio, QPR exit looks likely

Eden Hazard is expected to miss the start of next season after suffering a fractured right ankle, Chelsea have confirmed.

The club announced on Monday afternoon that Hazard, 26, had undergone “successful” surgery and is likely to return to training in around three months.

Hazard sustained the injury during a training session while on international duty with Belgium.

Blues duo out of U21 tournament

Chelsea duo Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Izzy Brown will miss the European Under-21 Championship.

Loftus-Cheek is still struggling with a back problem and has not been included in England’s squad for the tournament.

Neither has Brown, who helped Huddersfield win promotion to the Premier League while on loan with the Yorkshire club but is also carrying an injury.

Chelsea’s Lewis Baker, Nathaniel Chalobah and Tammy Abraham are in the squad, as are Fulham’s Cauley Woodrow, Norwich’s Wembley-born winger Jacob Murphy and Swansea’s Hillingdon-born defender Alfie Mawson.

Loftus-Cheek ‘devastated’ to miss out – Boothroyd

England Under-21 boss Aidy Boothroyd says Loftus-Cheek is “devastated” to miss out on the Under-21 European Championship.

“Ruben’s been up with us and spent some time at St George’s Park. He loves coming away with England and he’s devastated at missing out,” Boothroyd told the FA’s website.

“He’s had an ongoing issue which has been managed. We’re working hard with Chelsea and with him to get him back fit as soon as possible.

“We’re disappointed as well because he is a good player and a key player for us, but as he said to me, he’s looking forward to getting himself fit and coming back ready for our next campaign and that first qualifier against the Dutch in September.”

Bowler rejects QPR contract offer

QPR’s contract offer to Josh Bowler has been rejected.

West London Sport revealed last week that Rangers had offered Bowler a three-year deal and turned down Everton’s latest bid for the teenage winger.

Everton had returned with an improved offer after having a previous one turned down.

That offer was also rejected, but Rangers accept they are likely to lose Bowler, 18, if his head is turned by Premier League interest in him, so the news he has snubbed a new contract suggests a move this summer is likely.

He is under contract at Loftus Road until 2018, having signed an 18-month deal in February this year, and QPR are ready to sell if he is unwilling to commit his long-term future to the club.
