Wales legend Jones signs Harlequins deal

Harlequins have announced the signing of former Wales and British and Irish Lions prop Adam Jones.

The 34-year-old will join Quins at the end of the season after one year at Cardiff Blues.

Jones, one of a handful of Welsh players to win three Grand Slam titles, retired from international duty in January after not being named in this year’s Six Nations squad.

He won 95 caps for his country and also toured with the Lions in 2009 and 2013, playing in five Test matches.

At club level, Jones spent more than 10 years playing for Ospreys until signing a one-year deal with Cardiff last August.

Quins director of rugby Conor O’Shea said: “We are absolutely delighted to have secured Adam’s services.

“Not only is it apparent that Adam wants to keep going for some time to come, but the work he will do in supporting and pushing our young tightheads Kyle Sinckler, Will Collier and Matt Shields will benefit us for years to come.

“He is a world-class prop and we cannot wait to get him involved. I am sure he will become an instant hit with our supporters.”

Jones himself added: “I’m really excited about this new challenge.

“Contrary to media reports in Wales, I have had options here, but Harlequins is an ambitious and progressive club with good values.

“Everyone who is there, or who has been there, loves it and having spoken to both Conor O’Shea and [coach] John Kingston I was even more impressed.”
