Townsend believes he can make it at Spurs

Andros Townsend believes he can make an impact at Tottenham after his stint at QPR.

The 21-year-old winger has yet to start a league game for the north London side and Rangers are the ninth club he has been loaned to.

But Spurs have been monitoring his progress, with former R’s star Les Ferdinand – part of the White Hart Lane coaching team – watching him in action.

And Townsend declared: “I have belief in my own ability. This is my chance to show people at Spurs, here, and around the Premier League, that I am good enough to play at this level.

“Hopefully I can take my opportunities when they come and show everyone what I can do.

“I’ve spoke with [Tottenham technical co-ordinator] Tim Sherwood a few times and Les Ferdinand has been down to a few games, so they are keeping tabs on me. Hopefully they are pleased with what they are seeing.”

Townsend’s goal against Sunderland on Saturday helped QPR to a 3-1 victory and three precious points as they battle to stay in the top flight.

“I heard that it was our first back-to-back wins since 1995 in the Premier League,” he said.

“We’ve got a bit of momentum now and another massive, massive, six-pointer against Aston Villa. We need to take our form from the last two games into that game.

“Everyone is believing. We are only four points behind Villa – in a way it’s still in our hands.

“The quality is there and we are starting to gel as a team now. I think every other team has had their run this season. I don’t think QPR have had that yet.

“Hopefully we are on that purple patch now and we can keep winning.”
