Suarez puts dismal QPR to the sword

QPR 0 Liverpool 3

QPR never stood a chance against Luis Suarez.

With their committed but ageing defensive duo of Clint Hill and Ryan Nelsen, this match was always a potential humiliation for the Premier League’s whipping boys.

And it proved to be the case, with Suarez scoring twice in an embarrassingly one-sided first half.

He slotted home on 10 minutes after leaving the flat-footed Hill for dead and struck again six minutes later.

There was a touch of good fortune about the second goal but Suarez took it well, pouncing on the loose ball and firing into the net after his cross had been intercepted.

Daniel Agger made it 3-0 by heading in Steven Gerrard’s right-wing cross as Rangers fell apart.

They would have conceded again had Nelsen not been on hand to clear Gerrard’s deflected shot off the line.

The furious home fans made their feelings clear at the interval. So too, no doubt, did Rangers boss Harry Redknapp, who replaced the diabolical Djibril Cisse with Shaun Derry.

QPR improved – they could hardly have got worse – but Liverpool remained in control and Suarez was denied a hat-trick by a fine second-half save from Cesar.

QPR: Cesar, Onuoha, Nelsen, Hill, Traore, Mackie, Diakite (Granero 63), Mbia, Wright-Phillips (Fabio 80), Taarabt, Cisse (Derry 45).
Subs not used: Green, Ferdinand, Hoilett, Faurlin.
