Simpson fit but Assou-Ekotto is ruled out

Danny Simpson has been passed fit for QPR’s play-off clash with Wigan, as has Clint Hill, but Benoit Assou-Ekotto will not feature.

Rangers manager Harry Redknapp says on-loan Tottenham left-back Assou-Ekotto has been receiving treatment for a knee problem at the north London club.

Simpson, fit again after a back problem, missed Saturday’s game at Barnsley after picking up a slight knock but has trained this week.

Simpson has been a key player for Rangers.

And skipper Hill, who had been struggling with a virus, is now fully fit.

At least 3,000 Rangers fans will be at the DW Stadium for Friday’s first leg, with Monday’s second leg at Loftus Road a virtual sell-out.

“When you take that away support it makes a massive difference,” declared R’s boss Harry Redknapp.

“It’s all about the supporters. We’re looking to get the club back in the Premier League for them. We’ve got to make sure we put on a performance for them.

“Wigan are a good side and I think they’ve probably got the best squad in this division.

“We’re a good side too though and it should be a good match. All the play-off games will be evenly matched.”
