Sacked Chelsea youngster to stay with QPR

QPR intend to extend Jacob Mellis’ trial at the club.

Mellis, 21, was sacked by neighbours Chelsea after admitting setting off a smoke bomb in a training-ground prank last month.

The midfielder played and scored for Rangers in a reserve-team game against West Ham this week and R’s boss Mark Hughes is keen to take a longer look at him.

“We’ve had the boy in for a couple of days just so we can see him,” said Hughes.

“It’s difficult to see him properly as we’ve been preparing for our games, so we’ll try to keep him here for a couple of weeks.”
