Rangers boss Redknapp hails Henry

Harry Redknapp says Karl Henry’s form “epitomises the spirit” QPR have shown of late.

Signed as a squad player for the Championship, midfielder Henry, 31, recently found himself in the Rangers side because of injuries to Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch.

He has responded with excellent performances against the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City and is now regarded by Redknapp as a first-choice player.

“Karl Henry’s come in and done a great job for me,” said the Rangers boss.

“Let’s be honest, Karl at the end of last season wasn’t in my team in the Championship. Now he’s got back in the team and is going to be very hard to shift.

“He has been fantastic. He epitomises the spirit at the moment. He’s in there and gives everything, and if you’ve got people doing that you’ve got a chance.”

Much maligned for their performances earlier in the season, Rangers have been far more competitive in the last few games.

They won against Aston Villa, lost narrowly to Liverpool and Chelsea, and were unlucky not to beat Manchester City on Saturday.

Redknapp added: “They’re a good group of lads and even the lads who haven’t been playing and have been on the bench have felt part of the team.

“There’s a good spirit around the place and we need to keep it going. I think we’ll be okay.”
