Redknapp: I didn’t try to sign West Ham man

Harry Redknapp says he did not attempt to take West Ham midfielder Morgan Amalfitano to QPR during the summer.

The Rangers boss was reported to be chasing the 29-year-old midfielder prior to his move to Upton Park from Marseille.

Amalfitano, who spent last season on loan at West Brom, could feature against the R’s on Sunday but Redknapp insists there was never any real prospect of the player ending up at Loftus Road.

“Not really, no. It wasn’t a position I was looking for,” he said.

“He was a decent player at Marseille, went to West Brom last year and did well. He is a good player.”

Rangers are assessing Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch ahead of this weekend’s game. Both midfielders have been out with hamstring problems.
