Rangers play out goalless draw at Southend

QPR continued their pre-season preparations by drawing 0-0 in a friendly at Southend.

Yun Suk-Young, back from an extended break following his involvement for South Korea at the World Cup, played the first 45 minutes of the game at Roots Hall.

Former West Ham midfielder Jack Collison, who has been training with the R’s, completed the full 90 minutes, while Clint Hill, Nedum Onuoha, Alejandro Faurlin and Matt Phillips also featured.

Southend were the busier side and Rangers keeper Brian Murphy produced a good save to deny Barry Corr before a shot from Shrimpers midfielder Conor Clifford clipped the top of the bar.

QPR were without a recognised striker – Matt Phillips played up front before being substituted just after the hour mark.

The visitors therefore barely threatened, although Frankie Sutherland headed wide in the second half.
