Ramsey defiant after latest QPR defeat

Chris Ramsey insisted QPR are still capable of avoiding relegation despite their latest defeat.

Second from bottom of the table, Rangers remained four points from safety after going down 2-1 at home to Everton.

They have lost six of their seven games since Ramsey took over, but the head coach says they will not throw in the towel.

“I think the players played very well today,” said Ramsey.

“There wasn’t any apathy there and the players want to show the fans that if things don’t work then we’re not going down with a whimper – we’re going to keep fighting.

“There have been teams in worse situations that have stayed up and we’re going to try to be one of those teams.

“I don’t think we need a miracle. We do need a miraculous run of form but I think we’re capable of doing it.”

Aaron Lennon scored a 77th-minute Everton winner after substitute Eduardo Vargas had equalised for Rangers, who hit the woodwork twice.

Junior Hoilett fired against the visitors’ post early in the second half and Adel Taarabt almost rescued a point when his injury-time effort struck the bar.

“Unfortunately we can’t keep saying we’ve been unlucky,” Ramsey admitted.

“At this stage of the season we should have maximised that performamce with at least a point and possibly three.

“We’ve been fortunate this weekend in that the teams around us have not picked up points. It at least keeps them close to ourselves.”
