Jamie Mackie faces up to three months on the sidelines because of a back problem.

The QPR forward, 32, requires spinal decompression surgery.

Head physiotherapist Matt May told Rangers’ website: “Jamie has bulged a disc in his back, that’s pressing on his nerve. He’s got to have a spinal decompression.

“It’s the kind of injury that can happen to anyone – the body at some point fails.

“He’ll need to rest and allow for the healing to take place initially, and then he can focus on getting back to full fitness.”

Mackie has scored six goals in 52 league appearances since returning to QPR in 2015 for a second spell at Loftus Road.

His contract expires this summer.
