QPR would be ‘silly’ not to look at Best, insists Ramsey

Chris Ramsey has insisted QPR would have been “silly” not to grant Leon Best a trial. 

The 28-year-old striker is a free agent after his Blackburn contract was terminated by mutual consent.

Rangers do not expect to sign him but agreed to a request for him to train with them while he is without a club.

“I don’t anticipate anything being done at the moment – that’s why he’s [only] on trial,” head coach Ramsey said.

“We’re having a look at him and if he impresses enough to be offered something then great, and if he doesn’t then I’m sure he’ll be at another club.

“He’s a player that’s been around and we’d be silly not to look at him. He’s on a free and at this moment in time we’re not in a position to go out and splash out money on players.”

Best played for QPR’s development side in a match against Brentford this week.

He also spent a month on loan with the R’s during the 2004-05 season, making five appearances.

He was then a Southampton player and went on to have spells at Coventry and Newcastle before joining Blackburn in 2012.

After spending the first half of last season on loan at Derby, where he made 15 substitute appearances in the Championship without scoring, he spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Brighton.

He made 13 appearances for the Seagulls, seven of them as a substitute – again without scoring.
