Morrison scores two more in QPR victory

QPR 3 Yeovil 0

Ravel Morrison scored twice as QPR kept alive their slim hopes of winning automatic promotion.

He put them ahead midway through the first half and Bobby Zamora, on as a substitute, doubled the lead with 20 minutes remaining.

And Morrison’s tidy finish after being set up by Niko Kranjcar – his fourth goal in three matches – capped another fine display from the on-loan West Ham playmaker, who also scored twice in the recent win at Birmingham.

But Rangers will be alarmed that keeper Rob Green went off injured during the second half.

And they played the final few minutes with 10 men because Jermaine Jenas hobbled off after they had used all three of their substitutes.

Beaten four times in their previous six matches, Harry Redknapp’s side made an uncertain start and Yeovil registered the first two efforts on goal, with Tom Lawrence seeing his shot saved by Green shortly before Luke Ayling drove wide.

The hosts eventually settled, and deflected shots by first Joey Barton and later Armand Traore narrowly missed the target.

And after Richard Dunne’s attempt was diverted wide by Will Keane, keeper Marek Stech produced a good save to deny Barton at close range.

Rangers’ breakthrough came when Morrison cleverly feinted to shoot after being teed up by Junior Hoilett, giving him time and space to fire into the corner of the net from 25 yards.

Kranjcar, on for Traore, who also went off injured, had a left-footed strike saved by Stech early in the second half before Yeovil very nearly equalised.

Green, struggling with what appeared to be a knee problem, was motionless as Lawrence’s curler from the edge of the box hit the post.

After Green was eventually replaced by Brian Murphy, Rangers were themselves denied by the woodwork when Jenas’ looping volley bounced off the bar.

But Zamora’s first goal of the season – a firm header from Hoilett’s right-wing cross – spared them an anxious finish and Kranjcar created Morrison’s injury-time second after a fine run towards the penalty area.
