QPR v Newcastle player ratings

QPR suffered a club-record home league defeat on a diabolical night for the club. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in Newcastle’s stunning 6-0 victory at Loftus Road. 

Alex Smithies: 6

Was offered no protection from his defence and came under a barrage of shots – 29 in total. He could have perhaps done better for a couple of Newcastle’s goals, but he also made a number of saves to keep the score down.

Nedum Onuoha: 5

Moved back to right-back to accommodate James Perch’s switch to the right of midfield, but this was another one of those occasions that highlighted Onuoha’s limitations in that position. He at least put a few challenges in, though.

Grant Hall: 5

A night to forget for Hall, who has looked so impressive in his time at the club. Playing against such a quick, tricky forward line was always going to be a challenge and sadly for Rangers, he came up short on this occasion.

Steven Caulker: 5

The recalled defender made a few marauding runs forward and tried to mix things up in the final third, but that left the R’s short at the back as Newcastle charged forward.

Jake Bidwell: 6

Didn’t have too bad a game until the introduction of Christian Atsu, who simply had too much pace and skill for Bidwell.

James Perch: 5

Stretchered off with a knee injury in the first half, having had no real success in the defensive wide role he was asked to perform.

Karl Henry: 5

Another poor display and you have to wonder if Ariel Borysiuk’s pressing style would have been more suited to this game. Henry gave the ball away on a number of occasions and never looked a match for Newcastle’s midfield, particularly Jonjo Shelvey.

Jordan Cousins: 5

A disappointing display from Cousins, who has looked a solid performer in recent games. He gave the ball away often and was lucky to go unpunished when he was too easily dispossessed by Perez in the first half.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 5

Returned to the starting line-up following the recent death of his father, but perhaps this was a game too soon for Ngbakoto as he failed to make any impact. His set pieces, though, were generally good.

Tjaronn Chery: 6

A quiet night for QPR’s star man this season, as Newcastle’s backline prevented Chery from making any real threat bar the odd shot from distance.

Conor Washington: 5

Handed a start in the absence of Sebastian Polter, but Washington was given precious little service. He doesn’t appear suited to the lone striker role.

Pawel Wszolek: 6

Brought on for his debut early in the first half for the injured Perch; a baptism of fire if there ever was one. To his credit, Wszolek stuck to his task and tried to make things happen, with some nice footwork.

Idrissa Sylla: 6

Like on Saturday, Sylla was presented with a good chance to score shortly after his introduction, but he failed to take it.
