Brentford are celebrating a first win at Loftus Road for 52 years. Here’s how we rated the players in Friday’s west London derby.

QPR

Alex Smithies: 7

Produced a couple of smart saves and commanded his area well, claiming a number of high balls under pressure. Might feel disappointed not to have prevented the first goal but could do nothing about the second.

James Perch: 5

A performance which underlined that QPR need a proper right-back. Perch can play there, but his powderpuff display, in which he offered little of note going forward or in defence, highlighted his and many of the team’s shortcomings. Some of his best performances for Rangers have actually been at left-back, where he might have fared better than Jack Robinson.

Nedum Onouha: 5

Beaten in the build up to the opening goal and never looked comfortable, although one excellent first-half clearance prevented a certain goal.

Steven Caulker: 5

An unacceptable showing given Caulker’s pedigree. Scott Hogan is an excellent striker but the ease with which such a relatively inexperienced Championship player found holes in between two seasoned centre-backs was embarrassing for Rangers.

Jack Robinson: 5

With Jake Bidwell and Joel Lynch out, all of the options facing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were potentially problematic. He went for the option of throwing Robinson into a game of this type on his return from a long lay-off. Brentford’s energetic right-sided combination of Josh Clarke and Maxime Colin took full advantage.

Ariel Borysiuk: 6

Had a decent spell during the second half but overall he failed to impose himself in midfield as Ryan Woods ran the show for the visitors.

Massimo Luongo: 5

Is enjoying a fine season but this was his poorest performance for some time. Woods upstaged him and that was a key factor in Brentford’s resounding win.

Jordan Cousins: 6

Worked hard off the ball but clearly lacked sharpness following a recent hamstring injury. Can do better.

Tjaronn Chery: 5

Had no joy on a night Brentford overran Rangers and did not allow their potentially influential players to have an impact.

Conor Washington: 5

Tried to make things happen and had a couple of attempts on goal but made no real impact and offered the struggling Robinson very little help on Rangers’ left.

Idrissa Sylla: 5

Poor. His touch let him down several times and, bar a header cleared off the line, the Bees defence easily kept him quiet.

Pawel Wszolek: 6

Did nothing of any real note after coming on.

Sebastian Polter: 6

At least gave Rangers more of a presence up front when he was introduced, but it counted for nothing.

Brentford

Dan Bentley: 8

Cool, calm and collected in everything he did, bar a brief panic when he allowed Washington’s first-half shot to briefly spill from his grasp.

Maxime Colin: 8

Strong defensively and provided excellent support going forward, setting up the second goal which Romaine Sawyers met crisply. In the first half, he also delivered a dangerous cross which would have found Hogan for a tap-in until Onuoha’s intervention. Had more touches (85) than anyone on the pitch.

Harlee Dean: 8

The captain returned and recovered from a nervy opening – when he earned a booking for hauling down Sylla – to give a commanding display, including an excellent second-half block.

John Egan: 9

Outstanding at the back, producing a terrific block to deny Washington in the first half and then a super headed clearance off the line with Sylla’s header goalbound.

Andreas Bjelland: 8

Excellent in the air, as you would expect from a centre-back operating at left-back, but also read things well on the ground and covered across well when required.

Ryan Woods: 8

A typically busy display from Woods, who outfought QPR’s midfield men and gave Brentford a platform. Notably, when he drifted out of the game for a period early in the second half, that’s when Rangers took control.

Josh McEachran: 8

Played one of the passes of the night with his lofted ball into Romaine Sawyers, who should have scored. Later slipped a pass into Clarke, who did just that. Replaced by Lewis Macleod on 71 minutes.

Josh Clarke: 9

An exceptional display, combining terrific work rate, great movement and pinpoint use of the ball, capped by a well-taken goal. Took full advantage of Robinson’s poor night. He created a couple of first-half chances for Scott Hogan, and another again in the second.

Nico Yennaris: 7

Occupied a more advanced role at times, but struggled to find a consistent passing game and once in the final third occasionally picked the wrong options. Worked hard and also had a couple of wayward shots.

Romaine Sawyers: 8

Looked dangerous coming in from the left, and should have scored when McEachran teed him up in the first half. However, he more than made up for it in the second half with a lovely finish for the second goal.

Scott Hogan: 7

Will feel frustrated that he didn’t get on the scoresheet – he had the chances to, curling wide and blazing over from six yards. But still got into good positions.
