QPR still need to tighten up – Ramsey

Chris Ramsey praised his players but insisted QPR’s stunning 4-1 victory against West Brom was not their best performance of his tenure.

The R’s stormed to a fine win at The Hawthorns to lift themselves closer to safety in the fight against relegation, but head coach Ramsey insisted they can still improve – especially in defence.

Ramsey, whose team face a crucial match against fellow strugglers Aston Villa on Tuesday, said: “Performance-wise, that wasn’t our best performance.

“It was a good performance, but I think we’ve performed similar to that like against Everton, Arsenal and Tottenham, we just haven’t taken the chances in the same way.

“We were disappointed that we let a goal in because we’ve set some targets for clean sheets. Hopefully Tuesday comes and we can eradicate the mistakes and don’t let any goals in at all.

“We know that there’s always going to be an opportunity for us to score, but we need desperately to tighten up at the back.”

The win was Rangers’ second since Ramsey was installed following the departure of Harry Redknapp and it ended a run of six consecutive defeats.

Ramsey said: “It’s going to be a big boost, because when you’re getting beat every week and performing well, sometimes it’s hard to see a way out.

“But the players are keeping faith that their performances over the last few games have been well noted and they’ve played really well, but we haven’t taken our chances and been sloppy in vital moments in defensive situations.”
