QPR goalkeeper Matt Ingram has joined Northampton Town on a season-long loan.

West London Sport revealed on Thursday morning that Ingram was set to join the Cobblers ahead of the transfer deadline.

Alex Smithies’ understudy is keen to play first-team football, having made just four league appearances since moving to Loftus Road from Wycombe in January 2016.

Ingram, 23, has made two appearances for Rangers this season, both of them in the EFL Cup.

QPR have the option of recalling him in January.

Joe Lumley is set to step up to the role of number two keeper but Football League rules mean QPR could recall Ingram immediately should Smithies – or indeed Lumley – be unavailable.

As Rangers would be left with less than two players in the goalkeeping position to have made more than five first-team appearances, they would be permitted to take Ingram back.
