QPR fine Polter for Twitter outburst

Sebastian Polter of QPR

Sebastian Polter has been fined a week’s wages by QPR for a message he posted on Twitter after being left out of the squad against Sheffield Wednesday.

Polter’s tweet, which included an expletive and was later deleted, was posted after he had been told by Chris Ramsey that he would not even be among the substitutes for last week’s game at Loftus Road.

Head coach Ramsey said after the 0-0 draw: “I’m disappointed that he’s tweeted and, having spoken to the players, we’re all in it together and I think they probably share that disappointment.

“It’s an internal thing. We have a social-media policy at the club and it will be dealt with internally.”

Polter’s omission meant Rangers did not have a striker on the bench. Ramsey was barracked by fans when lone forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was replaced by Leroy Fer in the second half.

The 24-year-old German has failed to impress since being signed from Mainz during the summer and has not started a league game this season.

He has started two League Cup matches and scored in the first-round win at Yeovil in August.

Polter was among the R’s substitutes for Saturday’s 3-0 win against MK Dons.
