QPR chief: It’s time to make things right

QPR chief executive Philip Beard says the club are determined not to repeat past mistakes following their return to the Premier League.

Relegated last year despite massive spending on high-profile players, Rangers won promotion back to the top flight with a dramatic play-off final triumph against Derby at Wembley on Saturday.

“We know things have not gone as well we wanted them to over the last couple of years. This is the time to really make things right,” said Beard.

“We need to make sure we bring the right type of players in and give ourselves a good chance in the Premier League.

“It is tough to come up from the Championship to the Premier League and stay there, but we will give it a good go.

“We gave it a good go last time and it did not work out. We have to learn from the mistakes we made last time and not make them again.”

Rangers have less time to prepare for next season than Leicester and Burnley, who went up automatically, and will once again look to spend heavily this summer.

Decisions will also be made on the futures of several out-of-contract players – and Beard says the club are keen to reward the squad which won promotion.

He said: “There is a real spirit within the club that we want to hold onto. We want to reward the guys that did it this season.

“We are two weeks into the summer already so we need to sit down very fast and think about how we are going to move forward.

“We had a Plan A and a Plan B, now we can put Plan A in place. The financial implications of being in the Championship and the Premier League are massively different.

“Monday was a bank holiday but it was not a day off for us. We will be working hard but I would rather be in this position.”
