QPR caretaker boss Ramsey hails Sherwood

Chris Ramsey has said he would be “very happy” to be reunited with Tim Sherwood at QPR.

Former Tottenham boss Sherwood was lined up to replace Harry Redknapp, who left Loftus Road this week.

Ramsey, in caretaker charge for Rangers’ game against Southampton on Saturday, worked under Sherwood at Spurs.

Asked if he had spoken to Sherwood since Redknapp’s departure, Ramsey said: “We’re actually good friends outside of football.

“We speak regularly and he gave me an opportunity last year to coach at Tottenham in the Premier League.

“I’d be very happy to work with him as he’s very good at what he does. It’s down to the owners to decide who’s going to be best for the club.”

Sherwood is expected to be confirmed as R’s boss next week, with Ramsey likely to remain at the helm along with Kevin Bond for Tuesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Speaking at Rangers’ pre-match press conference ahead of Southampton’s visit, Ramsey added: “Any coach, when you start off, your dream is to coach in the Premier League and I wouldn’t be able to say I wouldn’t want to be a coach or manager in the Premier League.

“But I’m just happy to be here, involved in a club like QPR, and walking out tomorrow and sitting next to [Southampton boss] Ronald Koeman in the Premier League will be a proud moment for my family.”

Sandro could return to the Rangers squad following his latest absence with knee trouble. The midfielder’s fitness is due to be assessed later on Friday.
