Fans ‘can make or break’ team – Redknapp
Harry Redknapp has praised QPR fans and insisted they can play a vital role as their team look to climb out of the relegation zone.
The R’s supporters were praised by Jose Mourinho after Saturday’s west London derby at Stamford Bridge – the Chelsea boss walked over to Redknapp during the match and described them as “incredible”.
Redknapp explained: “He came up to me during the game and said ‘Your fans are incredible’ – which they were. The support we got against Chelsea was great and against Villa and Liverpool.
“I don’t think he could believe the amount of noise they were making. There were 3,000 fans and it seemed like we had 15,000. I think the team responded to that.
“I don’t think supporters realise the difference they can make to a team. They can make or break your team. When they’re with you and getting behind you it’s worth so much.
“They’ve been excellent. The results haven’t been great previously but they’ve stuck behind their team and that’s all you can ask.
“I think they’re going to be an important part of the rest of the season for us.”
Meanwhile, Rangers manager Redknapp has denied reports a deal has already been sealed to sign former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe from FC Toronto.
Redknapp has also confirmed that Joey Barton, Jordon Mutch and Nedum Onuoha have recovered from hamstring injuries and will be in his squad for Saturday’s game against Manchester City.

QPR fans have always been a loyal bunch. I remember gates of 15,000 when they were in the Third Division South – and nowhere near the top of it. The club has rarely lost that homeliness where players connect with the crowd. We used to travel with the team when I was a kid, and left late for Grimsby once because Brian Bedford’s Austin 7 had conked out in Hammersmith.
