QPR boss rules out January signing of Isla

Harry Redknapp says there is no prospect of QPR signing Mauricio Isla on a permanent deal from Juventus in January.

Having recently reported that Isla’s season-long loan could be cut short after he was left out of the side, Italian media this week suggested that Rangers were now looking to sign the in-form Chilean when the transfer window reopens.

But Redknapp insists there has been no change to the club’s initial plan, which was to take Isla on loan with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season if the R’s stay in the Premier League.

Rangers boss Redknapp is interested in buying the 26-year-old but said: “Not in January, I wouldn’t think. I think it’s a case of seeing where the club is – staying in the Premier League is the key.

“If we do that I suppose you could look at it at the end of the season, but it isn’t something that would be done in January.”

Redknapp has also warned that a deal to sign Isla’s Chile team-mate Eduardo Vargas from Napoli in the summer may not be straightforward.

Vargas, 25, is on loan at Loftus Road too and has impressed in recent weeks.

“Napoli paid £12m for him. They’re not going to give him away,” said Redknapp.
