QPR boss ‘not sure’ of Zarate deal

Harry Redknapp says he is “not sure” whether QPR will go ahead with the signing of Mauro Zarate from West Ham.

West London Sport revealed this week that Zarate, 27, would undergo a medical ahead of a possible loan move to Loftus Road.

There were subsequently reports that the deal was as good as done, which Rangers boss Redknapp denied on Wednesday.

Zarate looks likely to move to west London for the rest of the season but is one of several potential signings Rangers have been considering.

And Redknapp remained coy about the chances of the deal happening following his side’s 1-1 draw against Swansea on New Year’s Day.

“I’m not sure,” he said. “We’ll wait and see what happens. We’ll have to look at it and see where we go.”

Pressed on whether he was confident Zarate would be signed, Redknapp said: “Maybe. I’m not sure.”

Zarate only joined West Ham in the summer from Argentine club Velez Sarsfield but has struggled to hold down a first-team place, making only five Premier League starts.

He had a spell on loan at Birmingham City in 2008, scoring four goals in his 14 appearances, and has also played for Inter Milan and Lazio.
