QPR boss keen to give Connolly a chance

QPR manager Mark Hughes says he always planned to give Matt Connolly a chance to impress this summer.

The defender fell out of favour at Loftus Road last season and spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Reading.

But Hughes, who took over as Rangers boss in January, has been keen to involve Connolly during pre-season before deciding whether the former Arsenal man has a future at the club.

“Matt’s done really well and he will get more game time,” said Hughes.

“It was difficult for him when I first came to the club because I hadn’t seen a great deal of him before and felt his best option was to go out on loan.

“But I always said that I wanted to see him in the summer and would give him that chance.”
