QPR boss dismisses Remy swap deal reports

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has insisted that the club have not discussed a potential swap deal for Loic Remy involving Tottenham duo Andros Townsend and Michael Dawson.

Spurs are one of several leading clubs to have been linked with Remy, with only Liverpool showing a strong interest before a proposed move to Anfield collapsed.

Ex-Tottenham manager Redknapp, whose team face the north London side on Sunday, wants to sign former R’s loanee Townsend and previously looked to take Harry Kane on loan.

That led to speculation that Townsend and Kane could be part of an exchange deal, and after striker Kane agreed a new contract at White Hart Lane it was suggested that Dawson, who rejected a move to Loftus Road the season before last, could join Rangers instead.

But Redknapp said: “We want to keep Loic so that’s not something we’ve thought about.

“Them two are both excellent players and anyone would like them in their team, but we’ve never discussed that possibility.”

Remy, 27, snubbed a permanent move to Newcastle, where he spent last season on loan, while West Ham also made an enquiry.

He would like to stay in London and is desperate to sign for Arsenal but the Gunners have not made a firm move for him and nor have Chelsea.

The France striker joined QPR for around £8m from Marseille in January last year on the understanding he would be allowed to join a top-four side for the same amount.

Clubs not involved in the Champions League would be required to pay more.

“I’m confident he’ll be here. I hope he stays,” added Redknapp.

“Unless a top-six club comes in for him I think he’s happy to stay and have a good season with us.”
