Barnsley v QPR player ratings

QPR: Tjaronn Chery

QPR’s 100% start to the season came to an end at Oakwell on Wednesday night. Here’s how we rated each Rangers player in their 3-2 defeat against Barnsley.

Alex Smithies: 7

Well beaten by Conor Hourihane’s free-kick for the second Barnsley goal and was left exposed for the other two. Was generally solid and made two impressive saves in the first half.

Nedum Onuoha: 6

Given problems on the flank by Adam Hammill but battled hard and cleared a shot off the line.

Steven Caulker: 5

A class above in the previous two league games, Caulker had his feathers ruffled here. He competed well in the second half but failed to impose himself in the first.

Grant Hall: 6

Impeded in the build up to Barnsley’s winner and his misery was compounded a couple of minutes later when a rash challenge resulted in him being sent off for a second yellow card. Has certainly had better games.

Jake Bidwell: 6

Another who had an uncomfortable night. Bidwell was caused serious problems by Ryan Hall, whose skill and pace at times got the better of the Rangers left-back, who fared better in the second half.

Karl Henry: 6

Sat in front of the back four to help Rangers get through a bad spell after conceding an early goal. A steady performance.

Massimo Luongo: 6

Showed his quality at times but struggled to make an impact as Rangers were so often on the back foot, especially in the first half.

Jordan Cousins: 6

Tried hard and had a couple of attempts on goal. Created the odd opening on the right-hand side as well, but never looked convincing in his wide role.

Tjaronn Chery: 8

Impressive again. Scored with a penalty for the third league game in a row, rattled the bar with a terrific free-kick and was at the centre of most of Rangers’ best work.

Yeni Ngbakoto: 6

Looked a bit lost and needs time to adapt to English football. When he eventually did impose himself, by darting into the area to snap up a loose ball, he won a penalty.

Sebastian Polter: 7

Struggled to make an impact and his touch often let him down, increasing the pressure on his own side’s defence rather than Barnsley’s. But once again he produced for Rangers, winning one penalty and scoring the other.
