QPR badly need new signings – Redknapp

Harry Redknapp says QPR desperately need to complete new signings in the next few days.

The Rangers manager has a number of transfer targets, including Watford striker Troy Deeney and Norwich’s Netherlands midfielder Leroy Fer.

And Redknapp admitted there is an urgent need to tie up deals after his team ended their pre-season visit to Germany with a 2-0 loss against second-tier side RB Leipzig.

“If you look at the team we had out there, no disrespect to them kids but we’re trying to get them out on loan to the lower divisions,” said Redknapp.

“We’re still short. We’ve got only two strikers in Charlie Austin and Bobby Zamora so hopefully in the next week or so we’ll do something.

“We need players, there’s no doubt about that. You can play whatever system you want, it’s all about having good players. We’re trying to get some things done.”

Redknapp added that the club’s proposed signing of Kolbeinn Sigthorsson is still “dragging on” despite a fee being agreed with Ajax.

Rangers have so-far been unable to agree personal terms with the Icelandic striker but believe the move could still happen, while Redknapp is hopeful chairman Tony Fernandes will eventually secure the signing of Fer.

“He [Fernandes] knows we’re trying to improve the squad,” Redknapp said.

“We can’t go into the season with those two strikers because Bobby really is an off-the-bench man and he knows that.

“We’ve got to improve that area. We need strikers and we need a couple of midfield players and a ‘number 10’. We need to strengthen the squad.

“We need a bit of quality. We’re in the Premier League now and it’s going to be a tough division.”
