More woe for Redknapp as United beat QPR

QPR 0 Manchester United 2

Manchester United won at Loftus Road to increase the pressure on QPR manager Harry Redknapp.

Marouane Fellaini, on as a half-time substitute, fired United ahead in the 58th minute, controlling Antonio Valencia’s pull-back and shooting past Rob Green.

And youngster James Wilson slotted home in stoppage time after his first attempt had been saved.

Keeper Green had produced a fine stop shortly before the opening goal when he pushed away Radamel Falcao’s close-range header after the striker was picked out by Angel Di Maria’s cross.

Earlier, Falcao shot straight at Green after being set up by Juan Mata, while Charlie Austin twice went close in the first half.

Bobby Zamora outsmarted Jonny Evans on the right-hand side and guided the ball towards QPR’s top scorer, whose first-time effort was well saved by keeper David de Gea.

And De Gea then pushed over a 25-yard volley from Austin as Rangers enjoyed a spell of pressure.

But United controlled most of the second half and the hosts rarely looked like finding an equaliser after going behind.

They were presented with a chance when a mix-up between Marcos Rojo and Michael Carracik sent Eduardo Vargas racing towards goal.

But with Austin and Zamora to his left inside the box, Vargas ran into trouble and lost the ball near the edge of the penalty area.

QPR (4-4-2): Green; Isla, Dunne (Caulker 45), Onuoha, Hill; Vargas, Henry, Barton, Fer (Taarabt 70); Zamora (Kranjcar 79), Austin.
Subs not used: McCarthy, Ferdinand, Zarate, Hoilett.
