McCarthy keen to keep Campbell at Ipswich

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy has indicated that he would like to keep DJ Campbell at Portman Road when the striker’s loan spell ends in January.

Campbell, 30, has scored three goals in five appearances since arriving at the Suffolk club from QPR.

And McCarthy, who recently took over as Town boss, plans to do all he can to retain his services.

Rangers would be happy to let Campbell leave. In August they agreed a deal with Bristol City for his permanent transfer, but the move did not materialise.

“I’ll talk to the powers-that-be and try to keep him. He’s a rare old character and good around the place,” said McCarthy.
