Jenas keen to sign new QPR contract

Jermaine Jenas is keen to stay at QPR next season.

The midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, says he “definitely” wants a new deal at Loftus Road at the end of the campaign.

And he feels he has made a valuable contribution since boss Harry Redknapp signed him from Tottenham in January last year.

Jenas, 31, said: “The manager took a chance on me and I feel that when I have been called on to play I have given everything for the team.

“We’ll talk probably at the end of the season, but we need to concentrate first on getting back into the Premier League.

“There’s a few of us with contracts up at the end of the year, but we’re fighting tooth and nail to get this club back in the Premier League.

“On a personal level I have been quite happy with my performances. I came at a tough time when we were bottom of the league. It’s been a weird experience but I’ve enjoyed it.”

Jenas scored in Saturday’s 1-1 draw against Leeds, which ended a three-game losing run.

But Rangers again dropped points in the race for automatic promotion and are now nine points behind second-placed Burnley.

“This year has been a great start, a bit topsy-turvy in terms of promotion,” Jenas added.

“We looked like we were favourites but this league is harsh and we have dropped down a little. But hopefully Saturday was a sign of positivity and progression – a sign of more positive things to come.”
