Hoilett & Barton score as QPR draw with O’s

Junior Hoilett and Joey Barton scored for QPR as they drew 2-2 in a friendly at Leyton Orient.

Hoilett, making his first appearance of this pre-season, belted in a first-half equaliser from 25 yards after Romain Vincelot had headed Orient into an early lead.

Rangers looked sluggish at times and Rob Green was called into action twice in quick succession just after the half-hour mark.

Green denied Dean Cox after Richard Dunne had given the ball away and the keeper then did well to tip over Lloyd James’ long-range effort.

Harry Redknapp’s side looked sharper after the break and Barton put them ahead with a free-kick before keeper Gary Woods saved from Charlie Austin after the striker had been teed up by R’s substitute Frankie Sutherland.

But Cox levelled with a tidy finish on 83 minutes and Shaun Wright-Phillips missed a decent chance to restore QPR’s lead, firing wide following good work on the left from Armand Traore.

Recent signing Rio Ferdinand did not feature but is due to play in a friendly at Southend on Wednesday along with the likes of Clint Hill, Alejandro Faurlin, Nedum Onuoha and Matt Phillips.

QPR (3-4-2-1) Green; Caulker (Harriman 63), Dunne, Ehmer; Simpson, Henry, Barton, Traore; Wright-Phillips, Hoilett (Sutherland 63); Austin.
