Hill own goal means QPR lose final friendly

New signing Jordon Mutch made his debut for QPR as Clint Hill’s own goal meant their pre-season campaign ended with a 1-0 loss to Greek side PAOK.

England assistant boss Ray Lewington was at Loftus Road, where recent arrivals Steven Caulker and Rio Ferdinand made their home debuts for Rangers in a low-key friendly.

Hill, on as a substitute, turned a low cross from Facundo Pereyra into his own net midway through the second half.

PAOK had looked the more likely team to score and should have gone ahead when Stefanos Athanasiadas contrived to hit the post from close range after keeper Rob Green had parried Robert Mak’s shot.

Rangers struggled to create clear-cut chances but showed more urgency after the goal and did go close to scoring an equaliser.

Karl Henry’s effort was tipped over by visiting keeper Asterios Giakoumis, and from the resulting corner by Joey Barton, Charlie Austin’s header was cleared off the line.

And in injury time, Austin headed over from Matt Phillips’ right-wing cross.

QPR (3-4-2-1) Green; Caulker, Ferdinand (Hill 57), Dunne (Onuoha 57); Simpson (Phillips 68), Barton, Faurlin (Henry 68), Wright-Phillips; Mutch, Hoilett (Zamora 57): Austin.
