Half-time: Nottingham Forest 1 QPR 0

QPR midfielder Massimo Luongo
Jamie Ward’s 24th-minute minute goal left QPR facing the prospect of yet another early cup exit.

Rangers have never won at the City Ground and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is still waiting for his first win since taking over as manager.

And his team went behind in this FA Cup third round tie after being caught on the counter-attack following a corner.

Oliver Burke, who has caused Clint Hill major problems, sprinted into the box and his cross-shot was touched in at the far post by Burke.

Keeper Joe Lumley, 20, is making his senior debut for Rangers. Alex Smithies, who had been lined up to replace Rob Green in goal, has an elbow problem. Poland Under-18 international keeper Marcin Brzozowski is therefore on the bench.

Jamie Mackie, back after a hamstring injury, is playing against his former club – his first start since the opening day of the season – and, as expected, Ben Gladwin started after being recalled from his loan spell at Swindon.

There are also starting places for Michael Doughty, whose late father Nigel was Forest’s chairman, Massimo Luongo and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas.

Rangers’ only real effort on goal during the first half was a free-kick from Daniel Tozser which drifted wide.

QPR: Lumley, Onuoha, Angella, Hall, Hill, Tozser, Doughty, Mackie, Luongo, Gladwin, Emmanuel-Thomas.
Subs: Brzozowski, Chery, Faurlin, Petrasso, Polter, Hoilett, Perch.
