Fulham boss Jokanovic says QPR deserved point
Slavisa Jokanovic stood by his decision to take off Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon during Fulham’s 2-2 draw with QPR.
Both players caused Rangers problems, with Cairney scoring the opening goal as Fulham raced into a two-goal lead.
They were both taken off with 11 minutes remaining, with Rui Fonte and Sheyi Ojo replacing them.
Two minutes later, a mistake by Dennis Odoi led to Pawel Wszolek equalising, and Fulham ran out of ideas in the closing stages.
Whites boss Jokanovic explained: “I didn’t see players at the best level.
“I tried different players, with Fonte to try to find a player who can connect between the lines, and I decided to change Sessegnon because we needed another fast player.
“These changes didn’t give us the important improvement but the reason I made them is that I tried.”
Rangers’ comeback denied Fulham a fifth consecutive victory and was a significant blow to their promotion hopes.
And Jokanovic admitted that the R’s deserved their point for the way they responded to going two down.
“We didn’t find our best performance. We were sloppy,” he said.
“We had the situation more or less under control. Then after the mistake was the second goal and they deserved that, because in the second half they had chances.
“We made many mistakes. Many sloppy passes. We weren’t strong enough. The result was fair.
“After this kind of performance we cannot be satisfied. But it is part of football. We must now be strong and be ready for the next steps.”
