QPR boss surprised by Diakite’s decline

QPR manager Harry Redknapp says he is surprised by Samba Diakite’s failure to establish himself in English football.

The Mali midfielder, 25, impressed after being signed by Redknapp’s predecessor Mark Hughes in January 2012 but has struggled to settle since his move from French club Nancy was made permanent.

He is currently on loan at Watford, where he was sent off in mid-February and has not started a game since.

“He’s not playing at Watford. He seems to have lost his way,” said Redknapp.

“We found it hard to get him going here, but he has got something. In the first year he came to QPR and the club stayed up he looked really good.

“I remember seeing him in a game against Arsenal and thinking ‘What a player he looks’. It’s disappointing that he now can’t get a game.”
