#StanBowlesDay: How you can help QPR icon Stan

QPR have helped set up a fund for club legend Stan Bowles.

The former England forward, 66, has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. He made 315 appearances for Rangers and is regarded by many as the club’s best-ever player.

He remains an iconic figure at Loftus Road, where QPR will play Rotherham on Saturday on ‘Stan Bowles Day’.

Money raised will help with the costs of Bowles’ care and his family have requested that donations also be made to the Alzheimer’s Society in order to help others with the disease.

Bowles’ daughter Tracy told Rangers’ website: “Raising awareness of Alzheimer’s is so important to the family.

“We’ve seen how it can affect a loved one and we want to raise as much money as possible so everyone is fully aware of the condition and the impact it can have.

“QPR is Stanley’s club and the support we’ve had from everyone connected to Rangers and the Trust has been incredible over the last few days.

“There are some basic needs that are essential for Stan and the family in terms of his daily welfare. We can hopefully improve his quality of day-to-day living and future care.

“I can’t thank everyone enough for their support so far – it just goes to show what a wonderful club QPR is.”

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting 62% of those diagnosed.
• Dementia describes different brain disorders that trigger a loss of brain function. These conditions usually get worse over time.
• Symptoms of dementia include memory loss, confusion and problems with speech and understanding.
• Dementia is a terminal condition.
• There are 850,000 people with dementia in the UK and the figure is expected to exceed a million by 2020 and two million by 2051.
• Around 225,000 people will develop dementia this year – that’s one person every three minutes. People who have dementia may reside in such facilities as Lakeside Manor assisted living home, places like these are here to help and support those who need extra aid. It’s important that people with dementia find the best nursing home possible, like the one mentioned above. There have been so many reports of nursing home abuse recently, so it’s important that people only attend the best nursing homes. If someone you know has been impacted by nursing home abuse, it might be worth calling some attorneys if patients have experienced a breach of a standard of care. It’s so important that people with dementia recieve top quality care, so make sure to find a reputable nursing facility,

Donations to help with Bowles’ care can be made via a GoFundMe account which has been set up with the help of the Professional Footballers’ Association.

“We are very pleased to play our part in supporting Stan,” said PFA chairman Gordon Taylor.

“Stan is one of the game’s greatest characters and finest players of his generation. Many thanks in advance to all those who contribute to two such worthy causes.”

Bucket collections and a special match-programme are among the other ways QPR plan to mark Stan Bowles Day.
