Redknapp rules out move for Crouch

Harry Redknapp has insisted there is no prospect of Peter Crouch returning to QPR in January.

Rangers have made several attempts to re-sign Crouch since he left Loftus Road in 2001 and have been linked with him ahead of next month’s transfer window.

But the striker, who played under R’s boss Redknapp at Southampton, Portsmouth and Tottenham, is expected to be offered a new contract at Stoke.

With Stoke’s former QPR manager Mark Hughes adamant that Crouch, 33, will not be leaving, Redknapp says he has no plans to make an offer.

Redknapp said: “We’ve never discussed that with anyone at Stoke. I see Mark saying he’s looking to give him a new contract.

“He’s a good player and there are lots of good players you’d like to get, but it’s not possible to get them. That one’s not a goer.”

And Redknapp again suggested that Rangers are some distance from a deal to sign former England and Spurs forward Jermain Defoe from FC Toronto.

“Jermain’s an excellent player but I don’t know if he fits in our budget,” he said.
