Redknapp ready to put his faith in Vargas

Eduardo Vargas looks likely to start for QPR against Aston Villa on Monday.

Harry Redknapp has admitted it would be “very difficult” not to select the Chilean forward after he came on as a substitute and scored twice in last weekend’s home defeat against Liverpool.

And the manager believes Vargas, signed on a season-long loan from Napoli, could be a key player for Rangers as they look to climb off the bottom of the table.

Redknapp said: “Vargas coming on and getting two goals on the back of getting two for Chile as well, that was a real boost.

“It’s been stop-start for him because he came over from Chile and then he had to go back and play for them – twice he’s been back to South America to play games. We haven’t had a lot of time really to see him work.

“To throw him on and for him to grab two goals at the end, and the way he played during that short spell, it’s going to be very difficult [to leave him out]. He could be a big player for us.”

Redknapp will be without midfielders Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch, who are still unavailable, while Sandro is hoping to overcome a groin problem in time to play.

Rangers are confident Nedum Onuoha will be passed fit after a hamstring strain, but Niko Kranjcar has been struggling with a virus.
