Redknapp confident QPR ‘will be okay’

Harry Redknapp insisted QPR will improve in the wake of the 4-0 defeat at Manchester United – their second away thrashing of the season.

Rangers, who were also beaten 4-0 at Tottenham, were second best at Old Trafford, where the home side were three up at half-time.

Both showings were alarmingly similar to some of displays the season before last when the club were relegated despite making a host of big-money signings.

But Redknapp said: “For us I think it’s obviously going to be a tough season, but I still think we’ll be okay.

“We’re just a little bit short of a cutting edge up front really. At 1-0 we had a great chance with Matty Phillips. He should have scored.”

The R’s boss admitted that it was a case of damage limitation after United scored twice late in the first half to end any realistic chance of the visitors securing a point.

“If you come in 1-0 down at half-time you’re still bang in the game. Then obviously two goals before half-time killed us off,” Redknapp said.

“You don’t come out second half and go ‘Come on we’re going to attack them now, stick two up front and see if we can win 4-3’ – especially at places like this.

“Having said that, we had a great chance just after half-time with Niko Kranjcar which the keeper saved with his feet.”

Redknapp revealed that debutant Sandro, who appeared to be injured when substituted with 17 minutes remaining, came off because he was suffering from cramp.

Midfielders Joey Barton and Jordon Mutch both missed the game after picking up injuries in training.
