Ramsey insists he can turn it around at QPR

QPR boss Chris Ramsey

Chris Ramsey insisted he still believes he can turn QPR’s fortunes around following their derby defeat at Brentford.

The Bees’ first victory over Rangers for 50 years leaves Ramsey’s side 11th in the Championship table, with only two wins from their last nine matches.

The under-fire head coach, who was again barracked by frustrated QPR fans, must now wait to see whether the club’s owners are willing to give him more time.

Those owners have recently made it clear that a promotion challenge must be the aim, having initially asked Ramsey to oversee a period of consolidation in which young players were developed.

Ramsey said: “We’ve had an adjustment of our expectations. From my point of view, when you’re in the seat you have to abide by what the owners are aspiring to do.

“I feel once we get ourselves more settled we will be able to put a run together and hopefully we will be up there.”

Marco Djuricin’s second-half goal was enough to give Brentford their fourth consecutive win under recently-installed head coach Lee Carsley.

Rangers were poor again, although they were unlucky not to go ahead when Massimo Luongo hit the woodwork twice in the first half.

Having again been on the receiving end of an angry reaction from R’s fans, Ramsey said: “The bragging rights are what people want.

“We feel sorry for them that they’ve come and given us their support and unfortunately again we haven’t been able to bring home the three points.”

But he added: “I don’t think the boys played as though they were lacking heart or determination.

“We didn’t take our chances when they came and they took the chance they had when it came.

“For everyone that means my tactics were wrong and his (Carsley’s) were right.

“That’s what people look at despite the fact that we’ve hit the post twice.”
